I had a horrible experience renting a U-Haul through True Value in Fairmont MN on September 1, 2023. Note this was not the towing company’s fault.

My mother originally rented a 20ft U-Haul to move her from Jackson Mn to Alpha Mn but the U-Haul had to be picked up in Fairmont.

I arrived to pick it up by 9:45am. By 10:30am I was pulled over on the side of interstate 90 barely 6 miles from where I picked it up. The U-Haul just suddenly started losing speed regardless of how hard I pushed the gas pedal. Come to find out apparently the U-Haul had no oil in it.

The owner of True Value (where the U-Haul had been picked up) had me in tears before I even got in it. He was rude and disrespectful and very unprofessional.

When I called for roadside assistance Tory is the gentleman who assisted me. Tory handled me (who was just beyond myself upset) so well. He was patient and kind and listened to my entire rampage. He hooked up his scanner and couldn’t get a reading. I told him about the oil light that came on the dash and he checked the oil to find no oil on the dipstick.

Although the 80 minute wait for him was kind of extreme I was disappointed he didn’t arrive with an actual tow truck (since I was responsible) for the U-Haul I was worried about it being on the side of interstate 90 especially during the holiday weekend.

Tory stayed with me and helped me in every way he could contacting the people necessary to help us. Tory was absolutely one of the most helpful people and kindest person I could have asked for in that situation.

In case Tory isn’t recognized for his work; I hope his employer reads this and going forward recognizes him and appreciates him being a great employee that he is. He is the only reason I would recommend this towing company.
